Phrazes For The Young

Just a quick note…

I fell in love with The Strokes when I first listened to the Room On Fire album shortly after it was released (my music-junkie-of-a-brother introduced me) and since then have continued to fall even more in love with them.

So, fast forward to November 2009 when Julian Casablancas (lead singer/front man of The Strokes) releases his solo project album titled Phrazes For The Young… I immediately fell in love again.  I was waiting for this album to come out after I found out he was working on this project.  I really love the other bandmates’ (The Strokes) side projects and their bands that have come to fruition, but nothing tops Mr. Casablancas’.  The fact that he’s the lead in The Strokes does not have anything to do with it either… it’s just that this album really grabbed me even before it was released.  When I heard little snippets and teaser trailers I was like, “Oh goodness, this is going to be soo gooood!”  So, when I heard the actual album it captured the rest of my heart.  Every element of each song goes together so well in my opinion.  This recipe for music was cooked with tender, loving care and it shows.  Yum!

P.S. – Here is track #7, “Glass”, which I adore!

Beth Stern…

I just finished watching Howard TV with Beth Stern as a guest.  I’m so glad she was on to talk about animals and her new book coming up titled Oh My Dog.  I have always liked her and I definitely will be buying that book once it comes out.  Her love for dogs, and all animals in general, is something to admire for sure since I am an animal lover myself.  It’s funny how the Howard Stern show can make me laugh, feel admiration for someone and then completely do a 180 and make me feel anger toward someone…

… haha  I remember hearing about Scott DePace hitting his dog, Cookie, on the radio a while ago and thinking how cowardly and stupid he is.  Well, of course, since on the topic of dogs while Beth was on they had to bring that dumb guy on.  lol  I know he is just taking the easy way out on trying to correct some unwanted behavior with his dog, but the fact that he thinks it’s okay to do this and talks about it like it’s no big deal infuriates me.  I wish people could trade places with the animals they hurt and know what it feels like.  The saddest part of this is that there are sooo many other people in this crazy world that are just like him and worse.  Let’s hope for a better tomorrow, yah?

p.s.- http://www.nsalamerica.org/betho/ is where you can read Beth’s Thoughts (part of the North Shore Animal League website)

I can’t stand it when…

… People on Twitter use dumb, made up words like “tweeps” and “tweeple” in reference to other people on Twitter.  Oh, and guess what!  Today someone used “tworld” to refer to the world apparently.  Stop putting “tw” in front of every other word to make it seem cute or whatever your goal is… it’s rhubarb!

Changes at 3TV

So, coming back home to good ol’ Phoenix, AZ, I was excited for many things… one of which is the always interesting news of the valley and the  super fabulous news anchors at KTVK-3TV!  Some of my favorites included Olivia Fierro and Brad Perry.  I haven’t had the pleasure of watching it until recently because I was moving to a new house (yay!) and when I finally got to watch it, of course, I had to make sure I caught the morning, day and evening shows on 3Tv.  I saw some familiar faces, but when I didn’t see Olivia or Brad I got a little worried.  I figured they must be on leave or sick.  After not seeing them for several days I decided to research them online and found out they’re not a part of the channel anymore!  Sad!

Brad Perry was laid off and is pursuing his music career… good for him!  I always say you should follow what your true passion is and if this is it for him, then I am glad that he is doing what he loves… but I sure do miss his bubbly, out-going personality and way adorable face.

Now on to Olivia… I have to say that she has always been my absolute FAVORITE news anchor and I was so glad to have a job in the late morning (then)  so that I could catch her before I left for work.  I had made a rolodex in my head of news anchors in most favored to least favored order and she was # 1!  Apparently, she left 3TV to be an anchor for a news station in Las Vegas, NV!  I’m sure there is great reasoning to her leaving us for them but I can’t say that I’m not truly sad.  :(   I wish her the best of luck in her career and can understand that moving up to bigger and better things is always wanted and does great things for yourself.  I guess I can adjust to the current news anchors on the channel that I love…  but I might have to move to Las Vegas.

A little side note: I love Carey Peña, Javier Soto, Brittney Shipp, Beverly Kidd… and Frank Camacho cracks me up.

Zomg!

I never thought I’d become crazy about America’s Best Dance Crew on MTV, but apparently Quest Crew caught my eye in the beginning of Season 3 and I can’t stop myself from loving them and voting for them.  They must win!  RAWR!
